Carry me back is an initiative to solve global problems through local solutions where everyone can participate
With carry me back, we want to tackle the waste management problem in the mountain regions with no access to easy transportation and recycling factories.

How? By involving trekker to transport 1 kg of waste to a lower region where it can be recycled.

The first project
carry me back was born in the beautiful pristine mountains of the Khumbu region.

In November 2019, we piloted the system and 2,500 trekkers transported bags containing 1 kg of shredded waste from Namche Bazaar to Lukla Airport.

Since spring 2022, we have restarted the program and we will expand the pick up stations across the Sagarmatha National Park and other regions in Nepal. We have removed mored than 20 tonnes till date!

Hand of Everest
The "Hand of Everest," created in August 2024 by Benjamin Von Wong with Nepali artist Dipak Lama, is an art installation at 3,775 meters made from Khumbu region waste. Supported by Kiehl’s and the "Carry Me Back" program, it addresses the pressing issue of waste management in the Himalayas.
This installation stands as a symbol of sustainability, inspiring visitors to take part in initiatives like "Carry Me Back." Dipak’s expertise with reclaimed materials was crucial in bringing the project to life, showcasing the power of artistic collaboration in promoting environmental awareness.
